Baldwin Vista is a community in the South Los Angeles district of Los Angeles, California. It is located in the western Baldwin Hills, and partially borders on Culver City. It’s small population is diverse and typically upper middle class to affluent. Baldwin Vista and other surrounding geographic features/places are named for the famous 19th century land baron and horse racing pioneer, Elias J. “Lucky” Baldwin.
It is one of the true gifts that Los Angeles has to offer, even to its most seasoned natives, are the secret little neighborhoods that are reborn when a new generation of people discovers it. Baldwin Vista is one such neighborhood, located between La Cienega and La Brea, bordered on the South by Jefferson Boulevard, on the North by Kenneth Hahn State Park and extending up into the Baldwin Hills Mountain Range.
Developed between the late 1940’s and late 1950’s, Baldwin Vista has some of the city’s most authentic, untainted mid-century modern architecture in the city. The lot sizes are generous by Los Angeles’ standards and the largely one-story mid-century homes have a sprawling and elegant gracefulness, enhanced by the fact that they have room to spread out.
Here are some of the most expansive, explosive and quite possibly the best views in the city. You may have seen views from the Hollywood Hills, or Beverly Hills, but never have you seen views from the on the Westside that rival and even exceed those. The views from the Southern vantage is truly breathtaking and it’s truly amazing. You can see the entire Westside including the Wilshire corridor, Hollywood Hills, the Hollywood Sign, Griffith Park observatory and the dramatic skyline of Downtown L.A., set against the snow capped San Gabriel and San Bernadino Mountains.
Baldwin Vista ideally located it has tremendous value for what you get for the money. Home range in size from 1100 sq.ft-5500 sq.ft and start in the lower $400,000 range and depending on view and square footage, they can reach the high $1,100,000 range. The comparative value is nothing less than astounding. This is something that you definitely can’t get in further West. One would expect lower prices out in the valley or areas surrounding downtown. However, to be privileged with land, hillside vistas and phenomenal views in such a convenient location, within about 8 miles from the beach, Downtown L.A., Hollywood and LAX feels almost miraculous.
This area see very little turn over and is home to longterm residents, but as time goes on this little secret will be out to a new generation that will discover this little community that remains one of the “hidden oasis” of Los Angeles.
